In 1957 Mercedes-Benz was ready to introduce the new 300SL Roadster, purposely targeted to the US market. Even if MB officially retired from racing activity, the promotional effect of the track was highly considered and a special version of the new model was devised for the Sports Car Club of America competitions. Raced by Paul O'Shea, 1956 SCCA champion with the 300SL coupe, the car turned out to be a real winner, securing another championship for the driver and a renewed allure for MB! Just two lightened 300SLS were built: without the full size windshield, devoid of bumpers, the luxury roadster looked aggressive as ever, those side exhaust pipes playing as an eloquent reminder of the 300SLR

CMC's latest release fills a gap in all Mercedes-Benz collections, with a high-quality reproduction. The sleek lines of the prototype are masterfully recreated, highlighted in all their elegance by the shiny Silver painting. The replica is up to the highest standards, featuring even working suspensions. Its strength is in the cockpit, profusely enriched by carpets, seats in cloth, and leather border, which extends to the door panels and to the removable tonneau cover: any other detail is right there! Perfect wheels and wonderful tires, the engine bay also is up to one's expectation. Unfortunately some of the neat chromed parts are spoiled by an excessive trimming (exposing too much of the underlying plastic)and a simple decal is used for the trunk lettering, instead of more suitable photoetchings. Not 5 star rated, but highly recommended! The issue price is $139.
