Since it is 2009, we’ve come to expect some fiftieth anniversary models issued by Danbury Mint with 1959 pedigrees. This ’59 Vette joins the line-up of high-tech models and comes to us in a gorgeous Inca Silver top coat sporting red interior and white coves. The simulated canvas top adds contrast to the mix in black.
The first ’59 Corvette release from the boys in Connecticut came in the fashion of a famous race-liveried diecast, the “Purple People Eater”. Subsequently, DM issued a production-stock ’59 in Frost Blue. It had a carburetored small block. This puppy comes with a fuelie, baby! And like the blue beauty, we are treated to photo-etched wipers and seat belt buckles, working suspension, folding sun visors, internally hinged doors, hood prop-rod, removable spare, working fuel filler door and antenna plus the addition of chrome metal-foiled, “Fuel Injection” scripts on the upper front fenders.
You always know that you are looking at a Danbury masterpiece when you see separately fashioned lock buttons; in this case, on the trunk. They are also up to speed with properly simulated labels on the canvas top. Think they have a NCRS consultant on retainer? The round brand emblems are separate units front and rear and imbed nicely into the classic lines of the body. The interior and engine bay have all the bells and whistles we enjoy and in this color combo, the latest DM Vette is most welcome.
