When this Pace car was announced for the Indy 500 race of '04, it was immediately adored by many Corvette fans. Driven by actor, Morgan Freeman, it commanded somewhat of a Hollywood presence. Heightening the aura around the car, Chevrolet's Corvette division did not intend to replicate any 1:1 cars in this fine pace car regalia and has, to date, not relented, much to the chagrin of the Corvette fans. Considered to be one of the most beautful of all Corvette Pace Cars, FM will have a sure-fire winner on their hands with this release.
As with FM's other C-5's, the model looks good even based on what might now be termed as 'dated' technology. The shape and stance are still well presented. The colorful scheme of the red, white and blue, although origin-based on a white car, really has a pleasant look to it. Less is more and unlike some of the past Indy 500 Pace Car themes that were somewhat over the top, the elegance here is simply stated. Fm got the windshield header banner right with "An American Revolution" and the interior was done correctly in black and red. The top boot cover opens to display a simulated top-down presentation and the trunk has the red color treatment as well. That's where you'll find the limited edition plate. It was on the frame on at least one other LE of the past.
The badgings are crisp and the overall effort was a nice one. I'm also glad to see that FM hasn't issued a large quantity of these; at 5000 it is a true limited piece. Corvette fans, get yours as soon as you can, it is a beautiful little car.
