This 1951 Hudson Hornet showcases the company's unique "step-down" styling. The design was created by dropping the floorplan, and proved both functional and stylish. By creating a lower center of gravity, the car handled better, which helps account for all its stock racing victories. The design also gave the Hudson a lower and sleeker look, which was amplified by streamlined styling. It competed with luxury makes like Cadillacs.
Although the V8 was proving popular, Hudson did not have the budget to develop one. So they kept overbuilding their L-head straight Six. By 1951, the engine had grown to an impressive 308 cu. in displacement. This also helped the Hudson Hornet dominte stock racing. The following year, Huson won 27 of 34 NASCAR Grand National races!
This Franklin Mint model has been hand-assembled from more than 185 separate components. It is offered in a Limited Edition of 2,500 worldwide.
