In August 1965, the producers of the "Batman" TV show approached ultra-customizer George Barris to create a new Batmobile for their upcoming program. The car had to be ready to fly in only 3 weeks. Fortunately Barris had previously acquired the futuristic concept car called the Lincoln Futura. Ford had had it built in 1955 (ten year prior!) and at a cost of $250,000! Barris paid a buck. He saw the bat-like qualities the Futura already had and with a bit of addition... the Batmobile made its debut in October of 1965.
