Although this is not technically a new tooling, there is a lot to shout about. We have precious few fifties Chrysler New Yorkers. There were Chrysler 300’s released but only 3 New Yorker’s with a 1957 birthdate and only one for 1958. And that one was a convertible. Roughly based from their 1957 Coral & White sport coupe diecast, issued way back in 2003, this model exhibits all the nuances that transform it into a fifty-eight vintage hardtop.

Painted in Spring Green over Cyprus Green (metallic), the large car is warm and inviting. Medium-wide whitewalls and the coolest scale wheel covers you’ve seen in some time, raise the eye appeal immeasurably. The aviation styling that Chrysler employed at this time really shows well in this New Yorker. The sweeping tail fins showcase twin antennas and chrome ‘bullets’ on the car’s rear flanks. The side spear accentuates the styling lesson.

DM’s treatment of the scripts, in chrome metal foiling, gets better with each new issue. “New Yorker” is spelled out on the front fenders and in perfect scale. The front bumper was pretty cool way back then and DM nailed the replication. It wraps around the front end; it’s wider than the body panels and flips up like a super wide taco enveloping the grille. The lower chrome molding on the front of the hood flows back around to form a wheel molding. DM fashioned this as a full-run piece. And check out the chrome trim pieces on the doors, between the inner door panels and the outer body. They simulate the upper window chrome trim when the windows are down! Rear windows are equally presented.

The treatment of photo-etched metal is grand; the door sill moldings and headlight surrounds are fantastic. The fuel filler door opens, doors and hood open on new-age hinges, and the interior and trunk details abound. Open the doors and check out inside. Visors and seatbacks flip to and fro. The patterning of the seat and door centers are spectacularly finished and the dash top and rear shelf exhibit authentic detailing. The spare is removable and all jacking tools are shown with great detail. Of course the engine is the center of attention precision-wise. DM put all available manpower to work fashioning the plumbing, wiring and labeling.

You don’t have to be a Mopar fan to fully appreciate all the care and attention to detail that went into this little bon bon. DM did their homework and produced another hit.
