OK boys and girls, gather 'round for the next episode of the Pork Chop Saga.

As you may remember, our hero, who goes by the handle "Pork Chop", is a good ole boy from Pine Sap, Georgia. Pork Chop is a street and strip racer whose rides are the product of his own hot rod shop. In his younger days as a street racer his nemesis was Officer Buford Coultrane. Over the years, the Smokey and the Bandit" relationship mellowed through Lord knows what kind of male bonding process and the two became fast friends now competing at the local drag strip. When Officer Coultrane retired, so was his 5.0 pursuit Mustang. He bought the old car, tweaked it as best he could, and "the Bounty Hunter" legend was born. Ultimately Buford went to his buddy PC for a major makeover, so out went the 5.0 and in went a supercharged twin 4bbl 390 cid V8 with full length headers and dumps mated to the asphalt by huge rear slicks. If needed, a small shot of nitrous was available to seal the deal.

GMP has given us another fun car based on their Fox body Mustang tooling. Taking their 1987 LX notchback Georgia State Patrol car, it is stripped of its weaponry, lighting, and floor mounted console, but oddly, a driver's side spot was added to the A pillar...I guess to emphasize the car's lineage. The blue and white paint job has the low-luster aged look of a project car still dressed in its lawman livery. That look is carried through with the matte black window and body trim. The hood has been replaced with a 4" cowl induction version with a huge cutout to accomodate the twin carbed supercharger, which just dominates the look of the car. The wheels have been replaced with low-viz black 5-spoked wheels that have skinnies up front and generic slicks nicely scuffed behind.

The interior is stock LX featuring a console-mounted 5-speed shifter, lush gray carpeting, and stock legible instrument cluster. Added to the mix is an 8-point roll cage and twin racing seats, curiously without any restaint system. You would think the good officer would at least have to have simple seatbelts to race at the local strip. Dominating the matte black and gray dash is a large tachometer with mounted shift light. Flip open the trunk and instead of the shotgun and AR-15 there is the battery secured in an aluminum housing. From below, the gas tank is modified with a fuel sump and connected to the fuel pump which then leads off to the carbs via braided fuel lines. Bolted around the driveshaft is a safety loop and, dominating the undercarriage, are the twin dumps with racing mufflers that connect to the headers.

The stars of this show are the engine compartment and the beautifully turned aluminum trumpets that really set off this mean looking powerplant. The real rubber belt is toothed to engage the sprockets and can be rotated from crank to blower motor. I love the realistic use and simulation of the different metals and their color and textures. The carburator detailing alone is a real treat. The engine is plumbed and wired from its high performance coil to the individual plug wires. With the heater deleted and the battery in the rear, the rest of the bay looks desolate save for the high tech ignition box.

This model epitomizes the "run what you brung" look of the weekend warriors of the Deep South. I could picture this car being driven by a middle-aged Robert Mitchum in a sequel to "Thunder Road". It's a great companion to the Pork Chop Fairlane and, you know, it would be kinda cool to display them together in George Bojaciuk's drag strip diorama.
