The GM PD-4501 Scenicruiser Coach – Greyhound Bus Lines 50th Anniversary Edition celebrates one of the most recognizable icons in American highway transportation. Introduced in 1954, the Scenicruiser was designed exclusively for Greyhound by General Motors, with styling influenced by legendary industrial designer Raymond Loewy. Its distinctive split-level, double-deck appearance, three-axle configuration, panoramic passenger windows, and streamlined aluminum bodywork made it unlike anything else on America's highways. Measuring 40 feet long, the coach offered seating for 43 passengers across two levels, along with amenities such as air conditioning, reclining seats, and an onboard restroom. Originally powered by two Detroit Diesel engines, the fleet was later upgraded to a single 8V-71 Detroit Diesel V8.
The special Greyhound 50th Anniversary presentation pays tribute to the company's transportation heritage and the Scenicruiser's important role in making long-distance bus travel more comfortable, stylish, and memorable. It is a wonderful collectible celebrating a true legend of America's golden age of highway travel.
