The 2017 Porsche 919 Hybrid No. 2 delivered one of the most remarkable comeback victories in 24 Hours of Le Mans history. Driven by Germany’s Timo Bernhard and New Zealanders Earl Bamber and Brendon Hartley, the Porsche LMP1 prototype overcame an early front-axle hybrid-system failure that required more than an hour of repairs, dropping it to 56th place and 18 laps behind. The team fought back through the field to claim Porsche’s 19th overall Le Mans victory, completing 367 laps. Its advanced powertrain combined a 2.0-liter turbocharged V4 gasoline engine with an electric hybrid system driving the front axle, showcasing Porsche’s cutting-edge endurance-racing technology.
