The 1997 Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR FIA GT #11 D2 Privat is an iconic German endurance racing machine developed by Mercedes-AMG for the FIA GT Championship’s top GT1 category. Its silver bodywork, black D2 Privat sponsorship, enormous rear wing, and low, aerodynamic silhouette made it one of the most recognizable GT racers of the late 1990s. Power came from a rear-mid-mounted 6.0-liter V12, driving the rear wheels through a sequential six-speed gearbox. The #11 car was driven by Bernd Schneider, the accomplished German touring-car and sports-car champion, alongside Austrian rising star Alexander Wurz during the 1997 season. Schneider and Klaus Ludwig later won the Nürburgring FIA GT race in the sister #11 entry, helping Mercedes secure a dominant championship campaign. Built in a remarkably short development period, the CLK GTR combined prototype-like performance with the production-car styling required for GT1 homologation, becoming one of Mercedes-AMG’s most celebrated racing legends.
