The 1956 Chevrolet Corvette C1 V8 in Blue marked a major turning point for America’s first true production sports car. Its 265-cubic-inch Turbo-Fire V8, now standard across the Corvette range, produced 210 horsepower, with optional dual four-barrel carburetion raising output to 225 hp and a high-lift Duntov camshaft available for 240 hp. The redesigned body introduced scalloped side coves, exterior door handles, real roll-up glass windows, and a more substantial convertible top, giving the Corvette a much more sophisticated appearance than the earlier C1. What truly set the 1956 Corvette apart was its combination of lightweight fiberglass construction, compact dimensions, V8 power, and unmistakable American sports-car styling, establishing a formula that would become central to Corvette’s identity for decades.
