The Aston Martin Vantage AMR DTM test car driven by Fernando Alonso in 2023 was a rare machine—one of only five Vantage DTM/“Class One” cars built by R-Motorsport, with Alonso purchasing the original test chassis from HWA. Alonso, the two-time Formula 1 World Champion, tested the car at MotorLand Aragón in December 2023 and reportedly enjoyed its direct steering, powerful braking, and approximately 650 hp. The Vantage was a purpose-built DTM prototype rather than a conventional GT3, featuring a lightweight racing chassis, sophisticated aerodynamics, and a powerful naturally aspirated V8. Uniquely, Alonso had HWA install a passenger seat, allowing the car to be used for demonstration “taxi” laps.
