The Jaguar D-Type No. 5 of Écurie Francorchamps finished an impressive 4th overall at the 1956 24 Hours of Le Mans, driven by Jacques Swaters and Frédéric Rousselle. Swaters, a talented Belgian racing driver and founder of Écurie Francorchamps, was instrumental in promoting Ferrari and endurance racing in Belgium, while Rousselle proved to be a dependable co-driver during the grueling 24-hour event. The D-Type stood apart from its rivals thanks to its revolutionary monocoque chassis, inspired by aircraft construction, and its distinctive vertical tail fin that improved high-speed stability on the Mulsanne Straight. Combined with Jaguar's reliable 3.4-liter XK inline-six engine and advanced aerodynamic design, the D-Type became one of the most successful endurance racers of the 1950s, helping Jaguar dominate Le Mans with three consecutive victories from 1955 to 1957.
