The Jaguar D-Type No. 8 competed in the 1958 24 Hours of Le Mans with British drivers Duncan Hamilton and Ivor Bueb, two of the most respected endurance racers of their era. Hamilton had won Le Mans outright in 1953, while Bueb claimed back-to-back victories in 1955 and 1957, making them an exceptionally experienced pairing. Although their 1958 race ended in retirement, the D-Type remained one of the most advanced sports cars of its time. Its lightweight aircraft-inspired monocoque chassis, streamlined bodywork with the iconic vertical tail fin, and proven 3.4-liter XK inline-six engine gave it remarkable speed, stability, and durability. These innovations revolutionized endurance racing and helped establish the D-Type as one of the most successful and influential Le Mans cars ever built.
