The Mercedes-Benz CLR No. 6 entered in the 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans was driven by Bernd Schneider, Franck Lagorce, and Pedro Lamy. Schneider, one of Mercedes' most accomplished touring car champions, was renowned for his speed and consistency, while Lagorce and Lamy brought valuable endurance racing experience to the team. Although the No. 6 car qualified an impressive fourth, it was withdrawn during the race after the dramatic airborne accidents involving its sister CLRs raised serious safety concerns. What makes the CLR unique is its incredibly low, long-bodied aerodynamic design, created to minimize drag and maximize top speed on the Mulsanne Straight. Unfortunately, its radical aerodynamics also made it one of the most infamous race cars in motorsport history, leading to a complete rethink of prototype safety and aerodynamic regulations at Le Mans.
