The 1998 Nissan R390 GT1 No. 31, entered by Nissan Motorsports in partnership with Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR), finished an impressive sixth overall at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Driven by Italian racer Andrea Montermini, French Formula One veteran Érik Comas, and Dutch endurance racing star Jan Lammers, the No. 31 completed 342 laps in a demanding 24-hour contest. Beneath its striking blue, light-blue, and red Nissan livery was a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 producing approximately 600 horsepower, paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox. Designed with a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis and advanced aerodynamic bodywork, the R390 GT1 combined tremendous straight-line speed with the reliability required for endurance racing. Its sixth-place finish helped Nissan secure three R390 entries inside the overall top six, making the 1998 Le Mans campaign a major achievement for the Japanese manufacturer.
