The 1982 Peugeot 505 #17 Hertz Production, associated with French racing driver Anny-Charlotte Verney, was a distinctive example of Peugeot’s efforts to establish its large family sedan in production-car racing. Verney was an accomplished endurance racer who competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for ten consecutive years, earning a sixth-place overall finish in 1981. The #17 Peugeot 505 was also listed with fellow French driver Jacky Haran for the AGACI 300 at Montlhéry in April 1982, although the entry did not arrive. Unlike purpose-built sports prototypes, the 505 retained the practical four-door sedan shape of its road-going counterpart, with a front-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive. Its black-and-yellow Hertz racing livery and robust, balanced chassis gave this French production sedan a distinctive identity among the lighter, sportier competition cars of its era.
