The Porsche 356 BT5 1600 GS Carrera GT No. 108 won the 1960 Tour de Corse with German drivers Herbert Linge and Paul-Ernst Strähle, defeating a strong field on the demanding 1,280-km Corsican route. Linge was a highly accomplished Porsche test driver and racer who later became a Le Mans competitor and played an important role in Porsche’s early motorsport development, while Strähle was a talented privateer and Porsche enthusiast who worked closely with Linge to develop their competition car. The BT5 Carrera GT was particularly special because it combined the lightweight 356 B body with Porsche’s advanced 1.6-liter Fuhrmann four-cam Carrera engine, producing about 115 hp, along with reduced interior weight and competition-focused suspension.
