The 1984 Porsche 956 No. 33, entered by John Fitzpatrick Racing under the Skoal Bandit Porsche Team banner, captured an impressive third-place overall finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Driven by British endurance racing veteran David Hobbs, French driver Philippe Streiff, and South African racing champion Sarel van der Merwe, the No. 33 completed 350 laps in one of endurance racing's toughest contests. Its 2.65-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine delivered approximately 600 horsepower, while the Porsche's innovative ground-effect aerodynamics provided exceptional downforce and cornering performance. Distinguished by its striking white and dark-green Skoal Bandit livery, this Porsche 956B (chassis 956-114) demonstrated the remarkable competitiveness of customer-entered Porsche prototypes against the factory-backed competition.
