He qualified 5th, benefiting from the long straights and cooler night conditions that better suited the FW45. Unfortunately, his race ended early when the car suffered a suspected power unit issue, forcing him to retire on Lap 25. The Vegas event was unique not only for its flashy street circuit through the Las Vegas Strip and return to US soil, but also for being one of the few night-time Grands Prix, which introduced fresh challenges with tyre temperature and track grip.
