The BAR Supertec #23 driven by Ricardo Zonta at the 1999 French Grand Prix was the Brazilian driver's first full Formula One season with the newly formed British American Racing team. Zonta qualified 10th at Magny-Cours with a time of 1:42.228 and brought the car home 9th after all 72 laps. The BAR 01 was distinctive as the team's debut Formula One car, featuring a carbon-fiber composite monocoque, a 3.0-liter Supertec V10 producing roughly 780 horsepower, and a six-speed semi-automatic transmission. Its striking two-tone Lucky Strike/555-era livery and ambitious first-year design made the #23 an especially recognizable example of BAR's entry into Formula One.
