The BAR Supertec No. 23, driven by Finnish veteran Mika Salo at the 1999 San Marino Grand Prix, delivered BAR’s best result of the race, finishing 7th after starting 19th despite retiring with an electrical problem after 59 laps. Salo was an experienced Formula 1 driver who had joined BAR as a substitute for the injured Ricardo Zonta, and his performance at Imola earned the new team its best finish of the season up to that point. The BAR 001/PR01 was powered by a 3.0-liter Supertec FB01 V10 producing approximately 780 hp, coupled to a six-speed semi-automatic gearbox and housed in a carbon-fiber composite monocoque.
