The 1965 Ford GT40 Roadster #10 competed in the grueling 1000 Kilometres of Nürburgring with British drivers Richard Attwood and John Whitmore. Attwood was an accomplished sports-car racer who would later win the 1970 Le Mans 24 Hours, while Whitmore was a successful British touring- and sports-car driver. Chassis GT/112 was one of only a handful of open-top GT40s, featuring a mid-mounted 4.7-liter Ford 289 V8 and distinctive metallic-green roadster bodywork. Starting sixth on the grid with a 9:07.1 qualifying lap, the car demonstrated the potential of the open design on the twisting Nürburgring but retired during the race because of an engine-mounting failure.
