The Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI #5, raced by Nicola Larini for Martini Alfa Corse in the 1996 International Touring Car Championship (ITC), represented the ultimate evolution of Alfa’s legendary DTM/ITC touring car. Larini was an accomplished Italian driver who had previously won the 1992 Italian Touring Car Championship and the 1993 German Touring Car Championship with Alfa Romeo. The #5 was especially distinctive because its later-season specification used Alfa’s new 2.5-liter 690RC V6, producing approximately 490 hp at nearly 12,000 rpm, combined with four-wheel drive, ABS, traction control, and a six-speed semi-sequential transaxle. Larini scored victories at Interlagos and Mugello, and the car’s chassis 005 also earned pole positions at Magny-Cours and Mugello, making it a particularly significant example of Alfa Romeo’s technologically sophisticated Class 1 touring-car era.
