The Ferrari 156 F1 “Sharknose” No. 3, driven by Wolfgang von Trips at the 1961 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, gave the talented German driver his first Formula 1 World Championship victory, leading all 75 laps and bringing Ferrari a 1–2 finish with teammate Phil Hill second. The 156 was one of the most distinctive F1 cars of its era, named for its elegant nose featuring two angled air-intake openings resembling shark nostrils. Its mid-engine layout and revolutionary 1.5-liter, 120-degree V6 produced approximately 190 hp at 9,500 rpm, while the low engine angle helped lower the car’s center of gravity and improve stability. Von Trips’ victory was historic as the first World Championship Grand Prix win by a German driver, making the No. 3 Sharknose an especially important piece of Ferrari and Formula 1 history.
