Opel Omega 3000 #37 1991 DTM Season 1:18

The 1991 Opel Omega 3000 Evo 500 #37 Team Irmscher, driven by German racing pioneer Volker Strycek, was a distinctive entry in the fiercely competitive Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM). Strycek made history as the inaugural DTM champion in 1984 and later helped develop Opel’s touring-car racing program. The Omega Evo 500 featured a 3.0-liter, 24-valve inline-six engine in its production-based form, while the DTM race car was extensively modified for competition, producing approximately 410 horsepower and reaching speeds close to 186 mph. Its wide fenders, lowered suspension, large adjustable rear wing, and bold period racing graphics gave it an unmistakable presence against rivals such as the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz 190E. The Evo 500 was especially notable because Irmscher helped develop the road-going version to meet the homologation requirements of touring-car racing. Although the #37 faced mechanical difficulties during the 1991 season, it remains a memorable example of Opel’s ambitious effort to challenge the established DTM contenders.
