The 1973 Porsche 908/02 No. 4, entered privately by Guillermo Ortega of Ecuador, was a distinctive underdog at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Driven by Guillermo Ortega and Fausto Merello, this lightweight open-cockpit prototype finished an impressive seventh overall and sixth in the 3.0-liter Sport class, completing 316 laps. Its mid-mounted, naturally aspirated 3.0-liter flat-eight engine produced approximately 350 horsepower and powered the car to speeds approaching 270 km/h. The Porsche's striking blue, yellow, and red Ecuadorian-inspired livery, accented by Marlboro sponsorship, made it stand out among the factory-backed competitors. This privately entered 908/02 demonstrated the durability and competitiveness of Porsche's customer racing machinery against much larger teams
