The #5 Porsche 911 GT1-98 of Zakspeed Racing finished an impressive fourth overall at the 500 km Oschersleben round of the 1998 FIA GT Championship, driven by German racers Alexander Grau and Andreas Scheld. The #5 car was powered by a 3.2-liter, twin-turbocharged flat-six engine producing approximately 550 horsepower, paired with a six-speed sequential transmission. Its white bodywork with red accents and Jever sponsorship made it visually distinctive, while its low-slung silhouette, wide fenders, and large rear wing were designed for high-speed stability and downforce. At Oschersleben on April 12, 1998, Grau and Scheld qualified tenth and fought their way to fourth overall, completing 134 laps in the season-opening 500 km race. They finished behind three Mercedes-Benz CLK GTRs, demonstrating that the Porsche could compete with the dominant machinery of the era.
